City of Ottawa Council Approves By‑Law Changes to Support Special Events

City Council has approved updates to municipal by-laws aimed at supporting a broader range of special events – from major festivals and parades to local block parties and sidewalk sales.
These changes are designed to streamline event planning, improve coordination, and enhance public safety.
Key updates include:
- A one-hour noise exemption for outdoor events delayed by weather
- Simplified procedures for including food trucks at events
- Easier access to the AGCO’s
- Temporary Extension of Hours for events recognized as municipally significant
- A pilot program allowing alcohol consumption in select parks from July 1 to October 31
